ChatSe Alpha — AI Journal

Terms of Service

  • Version: v1.5 (see Versioning)
  • Effective date: 2026-05-04; corrected 2026-10-03 and 2026-10-13
  • Operator: The Context Lab, Inc. (“TCL”, “we”, “us”)
  • Service: ChatSe Alpha — AI Journal (“ChatSe”, the “Service”). The assistant you talk to in ChatSe is called GIRI.
  • Canonical URL: https://www.thecontextlab.ai/ChatSe-ToS

Plain summary. ChatSe is an early-stage product. We send your messages to AI providers to answer them. We store what you tell us so you can find it later. You can delete your data anytime by messaging “forget me” (Section 7 says exactly what that covers today). We will email or message you if we change these terms in a material way. We don’t sell your data. We don’t guarantee uptime. Use it as a notebook, not as a system of record for medical, legal, or financial decisions.

1. Who this agreement is between

These Terms govern your access to ChatSe Alpha, operated by TCL. By interacting with ChatSe over WhatsApp, iMessage, email or our web sign-up (sending a message, replying “I agree”, forwarding a link or an email, signing up on the web, or accepting a shared-journal invite) you agree to these Terms.

If you do not agree, stop messaging the service. To erase what we already have, send “forget me” — see Section 7.

2. What ChatSe is — and what it isn’t

ChatSe Alpha is a chat-based personal assistant that:

  • Saves what you tell it (todos, reminders, notes, photos, documents, shared journals).
  • Answers questions about what you’ve saved.
  • Sends scheduled reminders + a daily briefing.
  • Forwards content to AI providers (Anthropic, Google, OpenAI) to understand and summarize what you share.
  • Optionally connects to your Google account, with your consent and read-only access to your Calendar and Gmail. It reads them on a schedule for your daily briefing and event alerts, and when you ask about your email or calendar. It never sends, deletes or changes your email or events.

ChatSe is NOT:

  • A licensed medical, legal, financial, or psychological professional. Output is informational, not advice.
  • A backup service. Don’t rely on it as the only copy of important information.
  • A guaranteed-availability product. We’re in alpha; outages happen.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use ChatSe (16 in jurisdictions that require it, e.g. EU GDPR-K). You may not use ChatSe on behalf of someone else without their explicit consent.

We operate ChatSe in the United States. Using it from outside the US is at your discretion and risk.

4. What you can and can’t do

You may:

  • Use ChatSe for personal productivity, journaling, planning, learning, light research, and shared collaboration via journals.
  • Invite friends or family to a shared journal you create.
  • Forward links, photos, and documents you have the right to share.

You may not:

  • Use ChatSe to break the law (any jurisdiction that applies to you).
  • Send content that is illegal where you live, infringes someone’s rights, harasses or threatens others, or sexualizes minors.
  • Probe, attack, or attempt to extract another user’s data, our prompts, or the underlying systems.
  • Use ChatSe to operate a service for third parties without our written agreement.
  • Submit content you don’t have the right to share with us or with the AI providers we use.

We may suspend or remove your access (and may erase your data) if you violate these rules.

5. Your data — what we collect and why

Because ChatSe is conversational, almost everything you send is data we process. We try to be specific about the categories:

CategoryExamplesWhy we keep it
MessagesWhat you type / dictate / forwardRequired to respond + searchable retrieval
MediaPhotos, voice notes, documents, vCardsWe extract structured info; raw bytes stored in private GCS for 90 days
Schedule dataTodos, reminders, briefing times, timezoneRequired for the feature to work
Journal dataJournals you create, members, items postedRequired for sharing
MemoriesLong-lived facts you ask us to rememberRequired for personalization across sessions
Google data (optional)Calendar events, Gmail metadata + bodiesOnly when you connect Google; read on a schedule for your briefing and event alerts, and when you ask; processed by the AI providers in Section 6
Web sign-upA waitlist email; the phone number and email you verify; the name and avatar you pickTo invite you and set up your account; a waitlist email is deleted after 6 months
System logsPhone number, message ids, timestamps, latency, costs, and today some message textOperational + abuse / billing reconciliation; kept up to 30 days
Conversation recordsThe prompts and replies of each AI call, including your messagesFixing problems and improving the service; kept until deleted (see Section 7)

Sensitive categories. Medical and financial information is stored like everything else today: in our private database and storage, encrypted at rest by Google Cloud, but not separately encrypted by us. Don’t send passwords, PINs or full card numbers.

What we do NOT collect:

  • We don’t read your Gmail unless you connect Google and grant read-only access (gmail.readonly).
  • We don’t collect messaging metadata beyond what our messaging providers (Twilio, Meta, Sendblue, Resend) hand us for the messages you exchange with ChatSe.
  • We don’t track you across other apps or websites.

6. Who we share data with

We share the minimum necessary to deliver the service:

  • Twilio (US) — WhatsApp transport (current); Twilio Verify and SendGrid (a Twilio company) send phone and email verification codes.
  • Meta / WhatsApp (US, Ireland) — WhatsApp Business Cloud API (transport, when we migrate from Twilio).
  • Anthropic (US) — chat reasoning + structured extraction (Claude). Your messages are sent through Anthropic’s commercial API.
  • Google (US) — Gemini for understanding images, video, PDFs and YouTube links you share, and for web searches you ask for (Gemini with Google Search); Google APIs for Calendar + Gmail when you connect Google.
  • OpenAI (US) — search embeddings, voice-note transcription, and spoken replies (your audio and our reply text), through OpenAI’s API.
  • Sendblue (US) — iMessage transport.
  • Resend (US) — sending and receiving email (including emails you forward to your journal address).
  • Cloudflare (global network) — receives the messages and emails our providers deliver to us and passes them straight on; it doesn’t store them.
  • Google Cloud (US) — hosting (Cloud Run, Postgres, Firestore, GCS, Secret Manager).

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers.

If a court or law-enforcement request compels disclosure, we will limit it to what’s strictly required and notify you when we are legally allowed to.

7. Your rights — delete, export, correct

You can, at any time, by messaging ChatSe:

  • “forget me” — start a self-delete. ChatSe will ask for one confirmation. After confirmation, we erase your messages, memories, todos, reminders, journals you created, media bytes, and your account record, together with the search index built from your messages, the conversation records we keep to fix problems, and audit entries about you. What “forget me” does not clear: backups (cleared within 7 days) and system logs (within 30 days, with phone numbers and message text masked). If you connected Google, we can no longer use that access; remove GIRI at myaccount.google.com/permissions to revoke it. The providers in Section 6 keep data under their own terms.
  • “what do you know about me” — show your stored memories.
  • “forget that” / “forget memory X” — remove a single memory.

To disconnect Google at any time, remove GIRI at myaccount.google.com/permissions. That revokes our access to your Calendar and Gmail.

For full data export, email giri@thecontextlab.ai with the phone number or email you use with ChatSe. We’ll deliver a JSON archive within 30 days.

If you have a question about a specific data point (correction, clarification), email the same address.

8. Shared journals

When you join or create a shared journal:

  • Other active members of that journal can see items you post into it.
  • Items you post in your personal scope are NOT visible to journal members. ChatSe defaults to personal scope unless you say otherwise.
  • The journal creator can invite or remove members; anyone can leave.
  • Archiving the journal preserves the data but stops new activity.

When you accept a shared-journal invite, you accept that journal’s own short-form ToS (a one-line “by joining you agree the creator can share items into this journal with you and other members”).

9. AI output — limitations + your responsibility

ChatSe’s responses come from large language models. They are sometimes wrong. You agree to:

  • Not rely on ChatSe for medical, legal, financial, safety-critical, or emergency decisions. It is a notebook + assistant, not an expert.
  • Verify what matters. If ChatSe answers a question whose answer affects a real-world decision (a flight, a payment, a prescription), re-check from the original source.
  • Treat shared-journal output as group-visible. Don’t post things in a shared journal you wouldn’t want every active member to see.

10. Acceptable use of AI providers

When ChatSe forwards your content to Anthropic, Google, or OpenAI, you warrant that the content does not violate those providers’ usage policies (including no CSAM, no instructions for weapons of mass destruction, no content that would force the model into deceptive behavior). If we detect a violation, we may refuse the request, notify you, and in serious cases suspend access.

11. No warranty; limitation of liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW:

  • TCL DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
  • TCL’S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF CHATSE IS LIMITED TO USD $50 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE PRECEDING 12 MONTHS, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
  • TCL IS NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES — EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY.

These limits do not exclude liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (e.g. fraud, gross negligence, statutory consumer rights).

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless TCL, its officers, and employees from any claim arising out of (a) content you submit, (b) your violation of these Terms, or (c) your violation of a third party’s rights. We will give you reasonable notice and let you control the defense (using counsel reasonably acceptable to us).

13. Termination

You can stop using ChatSe at any time and erase your data with “forget me” (Section 7).

We may terminate or suspend your access if you violate these Terms or if we sunset the alpha. We will give 30 days’ notice for a planned sunset and provide an export window.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. For material changes (anything that expands what we share, narrows your rights, or changes data retention) we will give at least 14 days’ notice by a message on the channel you use with ChatSe and update the Effective date at the top. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

15. Governing law + disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes must be filed in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California. You waive any objection to that venue. EU residents retain mandatory protections under their local law.

16. Contact

Questions, takedown requests, data exports, security reports: giri@thecontextlab.ai

For security reports (auth, data exposure), email the same address with “security” in the subject line.

Versioning

VersionDateNotes
v12026-05-04Initial alpha ToS — covers WhatsApp transport (Twilio + future Meta), AI providers, shared journals, sensitive-data sealing, /forget self-delete, 90-day media retention.
v1.12026-10-03Corrections after an internal privacy audit: what “forget me” clears today, how sensitive data is stored (no separate sealing), the full provider list (OpenAI voice, Sendblue, SendGrid/Twilio Verify, Resend inbound), log contents and retention, conversation records. No new uses of your data.
v1.22026-10-04“forget me” now also clears the search index, conversation records and audit entries about you; system logs mask phone numbers and message text.
v1.32026-10-13Contact address is now giri@thecontextlab.ai (the old address still reaches us). No other change.
v1.42026-10-13Correction: Section 7 listed a “disconnect google” message command that ChatSe does not have. It is removed; to disconnect Google, remove GIRI at myaccount.google.com/permissions. No change to how we use your data.
v1.52026-10-13Corrections so the text matches the service: ChatSe works over WhatsApp, iMessage, email and the web, and its assistant is called GIRI; Google data is read-only and read on a schedule for your briefing and alerts, and when you ask; the provider list now names Cloudflare (it relays incoming messages) and Gemini’s web search and YouTube use; web sign-up data is listed; security reports go by email. No new uses of your data.
